The outside of this church has some really cool details. The stained glass on the inside is very detailed. Definitely worth checking out a tour of the tower if it’s open.

Lovely well cared for church in Heidelberg. Though dark and imposing on the outside the church was bright and airy on the inside. I lit a candle for my recently deceased sibling.

The church has the medieval charm with high ceilings and stone columns. And it has quite some stories to bring significance to it. Over a 300 year period, a wall was built in the middle of the church to divide it into two parts to allow both Catholics and Protestants to practice in the church at the same time.

The first stained glass window on the right caused the most famed controversy among the world history of stained glass works. The artist got a commission to build a total of 22 stained glass windows but due to the controversy on the fist window, he ended up only completing the single one piece, Physics Window.

It costs 2 euro to climb the bell tower which I highly recommend to do it. On the top you get the best view of the River the bridge, the old town and the most importantly, the castle.

Gothic, 1398.

The largest church in Heidelberg was originally Roman Catholic, but the congregation has changed denominations more than ten times through its history, reflecting the chaos of the Protestant Reformation in Germany. Intermittently, over a 300 year period, the nave and the choir of the church were separated by a wall, allowing both Catholics and Protestants to worship at the same time. The wall was ultimately removed in 1936, and the congregation is now solely Protestant.

Interior is a little disappointing. Jesuitenkirche has better interior.

This is the largest church in Heidelberg. It was constructed in the 14th century. In those days Roman Catholic masses used to be held here. But later only Protestant practices take place. You can go up the tower (almost 40 meters) for a stunning view of the Marketplatz and the city. Around the church you will find many cafes and restaurants serving different kinds of food. From local to Middle Eastern and Vietnamese. Marketplats is a busy square and a nice place to take a break from your tour, or to while away the time as you eat a snack or sip on your drink.

It is located on Hauptstraße with a large area in front of it and an area with many cafes. You can drink your coffee with the view of the historical Heidelberg Castle..

A historical monument that must be seen.
With a history of 700 years, it is a place that exudes a lot of peace.
As a curiosity, at the beginning of the 18th century it was divided into two parts by a wall.
The purpose was to serve two religions at the same time.
