Janusz Korczak was a Polish-Jewish pediatrician, children’s author and educator. As the director of a Warsaw orphanage, he repeatedly declined offers of sanctuary from Żegota (the Polish Council to Aid Jews), instead remaining with his orphans to the end, when they were all taken from the ghetto and murdered by the German occupants at the Treblinka extermination camp.
