It's a shopping mall with tracks and tends to get quite crowded as the station adjoined to it handles about the same amount of passenger traffic as does London Waterloo. So yes, it's quite busy at times.
Probably not a destination in and on itself, the shops and eateries (geared of course towards the weary traveler) are on the level under the tracks and on a subterrenean walkway below that stretching all the way into what passes itself off as the centre of a small city where it is also possible to catch all those light rail trains which don't call at central station (i.e. most, for some unbeknownst reason).
The whole thing is defintely a daytime attraction. The open area on the far side of the city centre entrance (probably the result of a dose of the odd slum clearing by the R.A.F.) tends to get quite seedy after dark and is best avoided when traveling alone. You will notice because all of a sudden there's no-one around.

The Hannover Station is considered to be one of the best and busiest stations in Germany.
In its vicinity you can find many shops and restaurants of all kinds. Be sure to take care of your belongings during busy peak hours.
There are restaurants out there that are open and serve you 24hrs, so definitely as long as you have the means to afford, you won’t die of hunger, especially when your are waiting out there for the train to come by.
There is also a decent and well maintained restrooms that are very essential in times of a nature’s call or an emergency.
Overall it’s a good place to spend some great and valuable time with your friends and family.

Hannover is not one of the great cities, still it has much to offer. Museums and the Zoo, makes it a town to visit.

Hannover Hbf is one of the busiest railway stations in Germany. The shopping facility / plaza at the Hannover railway station is a wonderful place. You can find all kinds of shopping attraction and also restaurant and cafe from McDonald's to Burger King and Döner kabab. Some are open for even for 24 hours which is a great boon for commuters availing late night or early morning trains. Lidl is also open for all days of the year. Having shops ranging from clothing to electronics makes it a good place to hang out in the weekends. The kids can enjoy this place very much. Washroom facilities are also available here which are quite well maintained. Being one of the busiest railway stations in Germany with a shopping mall, it remains crowded always. So it is better advised to take care of individual belongings. There is lift facility to every platform.
Overall it is a nice place to spend fun time, shop and eat with friends, families and kids at any time without having to spend too much.
