El Tequito is THE Mexican Restaurant in Hamburg. Yes, there may be others that offer bigger cocktails and louder music, but if you want the greatest flavours, drinks that aren't mixed with a half litre of fruit juice, and friendly service that will remember your face the next time you come, you need to go to El Tequito. Most main dishes are also available in a meat-free version, and the Frozen Peanut Butter Pie and Chocolate Mole Brownie desserts are amaaaaazing. There is a reason the others have come and gone and this place has been here 30 years. Highly recommended.

Great atmosphere, the staff is wonderful and friendly!!

But advertised as a Mexican food restaurant, it is NOT. It's texmex European version. If you are German, you will love it!
If you expect Mexican food, brace yourself for disappointment.

Good and tasteful food. Friendly staff. Close to the riverfront. Walking distance from Reeperbahn. They are missing a menu cart in English. Outside seeting possible, but a little noisy.

Great food with a strong taste.
All the meals were very traditional but came with some personal variations to make them more interesting.
The biggest (personal) improvement would be to change the music to a more matching style.

More Turkish than Mexican, at least that's the impression we got from the people running the place? So if you're looking for Mexican cuisine, you might want to consider going somewhere else. This is nothing to write home about.

Do I expect authentic Mexican food? No. Especially not in Germany, where it may be hard to find real Mexican ingredients. Now that's one story, but in Tequito, we were given salsa verde and frijoles which have obviously been prepared long enough for them to smell fermented. Additionally, we ordered fajitas (it's Tex-Mex, not Mexican, but fine), which according to the menu should contain Oaxaca cheese, however we were given some sort of shredded cheddar cheese. Not only us, but the table next to us complained aswell. The staff is friendly, and athmosphere is great, but when food is suspicious (for health reasons), better go to the next Döner you find.

Amazing food and excellent service. Benjamin and the rest of the staff made us feel instantly welcome. Good sized portions and the best ribs I’ve had in years !! Great value for money in a relaxed, welcoming environment, I would heartily recommend this fabulous restaurant. Plus the cocktails were first rate !
