Pretty neat experience to attend the Deutsches Spring-und Dressurderby and see the Hamburg derby in person. Unfortunately, we were not early enough one year to purchase seats for the actual derby, and ended up having to stand on the hills opposite the stands. This was a terrible experience, with far too many standing places being sold for the space available. I would NOT recommend going to the derby if this is the way you are to experience it. Sitting was much nicer as there wasn't anyone elbowing you or pushing in front you, and, due to the direction of the sun, I do not think it matters whether you are under the cover or not, but more of a personal preference how high up you would like to sit. The vendors and food options were of a good quantity and assortment, except that there were not many stands for children--a stuffed animal and toy stand could have made a lot of money. The restrooms were adequate and public transit easily brought you to the park. The biggest unfortunate part was that smoking is allowed inside the park, including in the stands. I found it extremely rude to have someone sitting next to me light up, with me obviously being in my third trimester of pregnancy.
