A really good museum for the history of Altona. Specially remarkable is the upper floor where you can find reproductions of old housing existing in Altona experiencing how were the living conditions of the locals in the 19th Century.

An interesting view on this former small city that eventually become part of Hamburg. Mostly growing due to the ship industry, it has doubled its size and kept growing. Even hardships like a great fire and the destruction of war didn't stop the development and growth in population. I have great respect for the people that have been living in Altona for generations and made sure to preserve the traditions and beauty of this area!

Superb museum focusing on the very interesting and quite specific history of Altona, roughly speaking the western part of Hamburg.
The large museum needs several hours to be explored properly, preferably even half a day or more. The ground floor focuses on historical ships, including an awesome collection of large-scale models and the renowned series of bow statues. On the upper floors several other aspects of Altona's rich history get proper attention. The café is also pretty good.

The new kids exhibition is really nice. It felt like a drift shop were kids cam experiment and get to know things from other ages. Perfect to keep kids busy for hours

Terrific experience to experience the history of my neighborhood!! Quite interactive and a unique experience. Happy they didn't close it à few years ago..

2 nice exhibitions worth visiting now; one on Altona development over time and another on photos taken by refugees in Hamburg
