Every year the last 18 years (with a break for Corona) I have visited Essen fair. I feel it is a large and fairly well laid out fair area with a total of 8 large halls. I have only been here for Spiel (Board game). And I love to go here and see what is new. Meet up with old and new friends.

Excellent Location in Germany‘s traditional Ruhr-Area. Luxemburg, Belgium and the the Netherlands are also close. Very will linked by Plane, Train and Car as well as Public Transport. Accommodations in the City affordable and the Location itself is perfect. Friendly Layout, easy to reach Toilettes, many Restaurants, free Internet.

A great venue for trade show visitors.
Access by public transport right to the entrance.
Open plan entrance. Coffee shop in the main entrance. There are toilets.
Entry management is well thought and organised. There is a section to hand in jackets for storage.
The inside is spacious allowing for each walking between the stands and display booths. Plenty food and drinks on sale.

Went here for Spiel 22 and the facility was outstanding. Bathrooms were consistently well stocked, expansive layout, and great parking!

Not particularly friendly for less mobile people... Many connections between halls have stairs, not ramps, so you're walking around more to find the right doorway when you're already having difficulty walking and use a walker, and getting to handicapped bathrooms is awkward, elevator tucked away in a tiny corner behind an emergency exit.

I've been here for Spiel 2017, 2018, 2019, 2021, and 2022. Spiel is great, but you can really tell that the convention centre isn't really built for quite that many visitors. It works well enough, but some resources really are stretched, like the number of toilets for example.
