The Duisburg-Hochfeld railway bridge is a bridge over the Rhine between the Duisburg districts of Hochfeld and Rheinhausen .
Today it is the fourth bridge since then.
First bridge:
On August 23, 1866 , the Rheinische Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft opened the Osterath - Essen railway line with the Rheinhausen – Hochfeld trajectory for coal transportation.
On June 30, 1923, during the occupation of the Rhineland , a bomb , which was said to have a time detonator, exploded in a Belgian military train when crossing the Rhine bridge near Duisburg .
Second bridge:
Construction of the second bridge began in 1925, and it was put into operation on October 13, 1927.
This bridge, built of steel St 48 , received a bomb hit at its left end on May 22, 1944, which made it impassable.
Third bridge:
On 8 May 1945 the ADSEC Engineer Group A, led by Col. Helmer Swenholt, commanding officer of the 332nd Engineer General Service Regiment, constructed a railway bridge between Duisburg and Rheinhausen across the Rhine.
It was 860 meters long, and constructed in six days, fifteen hours and twenty minutes, a record time. It was named the "Victory Bridge".
