Beautiful city, glad we stopped to visit it in our way to Praga.

The Nymphenbad is a fountain and pavilion complex within Zwinger. This fountain is of a beautiful late Baroque design and could easily mistaken for Rococo such is the richness of the sculptural ensemble decorating the fountain, not to mention the intricate design of the waterfall feature. The fountain sits in what would originally have been a private area of the palace in a pavilion which contains many classical inspire Baroque sculptures to compliment the ones already on the fountain.

It's just a pity that the water was turned off when I visited, but still a five star.

This is not just a fountain or a small system of fountains. This is a very beautiful and large composition of one long fountain from which water slopes downhill, and one large fountain below almost the entire area of the courtyard. Around in the recesses are beautiful, graceful, and slightly nude statues of nymphs.
This composition of fountains, statues, and that small and cozy courtyard in which all this is located made a very strong visual impression on me. In this place you can only dream of relaxing with a book or sitting on a date with your loved one. Especially if it is a secret date))

This place is a secluded quiet gem thats easy to spot on a map but hard to find by accident on foot. A few sets of unremarkable steps leading downward to what might look like a "staff only" zone of the building actually lead to these elaborate fountains

I burst into tears walking in here today after 10 years away. It was instantly my favourite place as a teen even before learning my grandparents would sneak down here for quiet moments back in the 1940's when they were dating!
The fountains are not running at the moment (May 2019) but it's the saucy charm of the nymphs and the semi-secret location that makes it magical with or without the "Bad".
The blackened portions on some carvings are a reminder how lucky Nymphenbad was to survive the bombing.

If your like us and struggling to find this place follow my directions. Go to the middle of the plaza, face the crown dome and enter the archway into the grotto building, then go up the stairs to the right, turn right go to the fountain there then down those stairs to the nymphenbad. Worth it though!

We didn't actually know about this fountain but we stumbled upon it by chance and found it quite charming!
