This monument stands in tribute to Erich Kästner, a German author, poet, screenwriter and satirist. He is a winner of the Hans Christian Andersen Medal and best known primarily for his humorous children's books. I can't say I'm familiar with his work, but anyone who wins that award and encourages children to read gets a thumbs up from me.
The monument is as humorous and whimsical as good writing. The monument is a bronze sculpture and features a small, raised table with a stack of books, topped with Kästner's hat. Around the stack is more sculptures of open books written by Kästner.
Not exactly a must see, but I like the monument as it immediately tells you something about the man, not to mention a reminder of my own love of reading.
