Mercure Hotel Koeln West

We stayed here for two nights as a stop off while driving across Europe. We spent the day at Phantasialand and the hotel was handy for this, as well as being just off the main autobahns. Facilities were good as you'd expect from a Mercure. We didn't get chance to try the pool. We did get woken up in the middle of the first night when a fire alarm went off, and were a bit annoyed that we didn't receive an explanation, though thankfully it was a false alarm.

It is fine for one night, good size, friendly service and good location for shops and fast food, to improve the size of the beds / the distribution of the bathroom, everything is very uncomfortable and the climate does not have much power in this time of extreme heat. Recommended for a break on the road.

Usual friendly welcome- our usual room -525 has been refurbished since our stay in May-new TV, curtains , shower etc. Quiet and comfortable with breakfast back to pre-Covid standards of excellence.

Online check in was not as fast and easy as it should be. Room was OK. Was really overpriced for what it was. And shocking to be charged for local tourist taxes on top of taxes already paid. Car parking if £10 is high as well.

Be very careful when booking this hotel. They overprice when they can and are absolutely not flexible and have a poor customer service.

Fine hotel, outside Köln but near the highway (61). Good food in the bar, delicious Hungarian Goulash Soup. Room is also OK, bit of outdated look and feel but clean. Nice badroom with bath, plenty of space.
