This statue stands in tribute to Kaiser Wilhelm I, the first emperor of the German Empire after the unification of the German states under the leadership of Prussia.
The statue is a larger than life equestrian statue of the emperor in his military uniform underneath a cloak. His right hand is held in a fist resting on his thigh, while the left is holding onto the reins of the horse. On his head, he wears a very German Pickelhaube helmet decorated with a plume.
A very majestic statue and is located on the south side of the Hohenzollern Bridge, on the east bank of the River Rhine. The statue faces east, greeting the trains entering Cologne Hauptbahnhof
