Instead of the previous two-tier base, the fountain was placed on a single-tier base during the reconstruction. According to the chairman of the Saxonia Fountain Association, Peter Fritzsche, the former fence was intentionally left out during the reconstruction so that one can approach the fountain and experience it more consciously. The newly cast “Saxonia” is considerably smaller than the original and somewhat simplified in design. For example, the large Saxon coat of arms, which previously explicitly identified the figure as a personification of Saxony, is missing.

Der Saxoniabrunnen, der einstmals den Chemnitzer Roßmarkt zierte, steht seit Anfang Juli 2011 auf dem neugestalteten Johannisplatz. Restauriert wurden der vorhandene Sockel und der Aufsatz. Die seitlichen Bronzefiguren Schmied und Spinnerin, sowie die Figur der Saxonia, die im Krieg einer Metallspende zum Opfer fielen, wurden mit Spendengeldern nachgegossen. Statt des früheren zweistufigen Sockels wurde der Brunnen bei der Rekonstruktion auf einen einstufigen Sockel gestellt. Der frühere Zaun wurde laut Aussage des Vorsitzenden des Saxoniabrunnen-Vereins, Peter Fritzsche, beim Neuaufbau absichtlich weggelassen, damit man an den Brunnen herantreten und ihn bewusster erleben kann. Die neu gegossene „Saxonia“ ist erheblich kleiner als das Original und etwas vereinfacht in der Ausführung. So fehlt bspw. der große sächsische Wappenschild, der die Figur früher explizit als Personifikation Sachsens auswies.
