I am a regular at Knigge for as long as I can remember. My parents grew up with Knigge and so did my grandparents. I always enjoyed Knigge for its great cake selection and the atmosphere inside with the red carpets but after returning to Bremen after 6 years I have to say that Knigge has dropped its quality.

The service is often times simply rude or too laid back (lacking "knigge"). The coffee quality has dropped a lot. The cake quality is in a steady decline for the past year or so. The cakes still taste good but the quality of the ingredients has declined and I am not too fond of the newer cakes they have been producing.

My advice, if Herr Knigge or someone from the staff reads this. Please rectify your staff you have friendly personal and some rude ones which I am sure you know. As for your cakes I can just advice you to go back to your roots because if the quality declines any more I will have to stop visiting this place unfortunately. Your coffee was always fairly dark but times have changed. If possible cooperate with Cross Coffee or another roaster to get decent quality coffee beans.

Seen the sign 130 years, the decoration inside is nice, the coffee and cake quality is less than normal. I didn't find any speciality about it. I had big expectation for the coffee but it was really normal from those electrical machine. Taste as much as any non popular cafe. I would come again to use the toilet but sure will not have coffee ????

Honestly wish I would have gone somewhere else for my breakfast in Bremen. The strawberry cake tasted like it was made at a store, it didn't have that "homemade" taste; the cake part was dry and the jelly part of the strawberry topping tasted as if it was out of a can.

The latté was good.

If you don't know the ordering process it can be a bit complicated. If you're eating in, to order a cake/pastry you need to do so at the counter inside and get a little ticket for it then sit down and give said ticket to your waiter/waitress.

Yes I am a tourist. I speak English and the first lady that greeted me rolled her eyes when she realized this and with a rude tone loudly yelled for some other guy to speak to me. And he wasn't too nice either, although he did tell me the proper way to order the cake. Definitely seemed like they were over it and taking it out on anyone that was a slight inconvenience i.e. speaking English and not German.

My actual waitress once I finally sat down was very pleasant, spoke perfect English and didn't make me feel like an inconvenience.

All in all there are a TON of places like this around and I simply should have gone to another one.

The Knigge is a café with a long tradition, dating back to 1889, yes more than 125 years. It is located in the center of old town Bremen, close to the renowned Bremer Stadtmusikanten, Bremen's famous landmark, the 4 animals standing on each other like a pyramid, which is only a few minutes away by foot. The Café Knigge is a Konditorei and Confiserie and is located in Bremen's bustling pedestrian promenade, where you can see large parts of the Bremen people passing by, called Bremer, while you sit in the patio of this nice café and pastry shop. I had a delicious tart, an Apricot Brandy Tart with Marzipan on top and almond splinters on the backside, together with a Cappuccino with whipped cream served on a separated little plate. Here are so many delicacies in the show case and on the shelves. It is a great place to spend a while and enjoy delicious coffee, pastry, tarts and sweets.

From Bremen with Love!

Cakes were delicious, service was okay, short waiting time when we wanted to pay. Tea and coffee good but not great quality.

I prefer smaller shops.

One of the best Konditorei in Bremen. The cakes there are very tasty. Good coffee and fast service. It is very popular for the locals, that's why it is always full of customers. Black forest cake here is scrumptious, highly recommended!
