I stay in 100+ hotels a year and this is the first time I've ever felt compelled to leave a review.
This hotel has "design" in its title and yet it's the most poorly designed place I've ever stayed.
Before I get on to the design, let me say that when we checked in there was a lot of drilling going on. I asked what time it would start in the morning (I've had bad experiences with that before) and was told it would start at 8am.
I asked to be put in a room as far away as possible and was told by a girl with a sweater that read "shitaake happens" that you could hear it throughout the whole hotel.
We checked into room 212 and the noise was insane. I went to investigate where the drilling was taking place, only to discover that it was happening in the room directly above - 312.
I went back down to reception to ask to be moved to another room, since the drilling was happening directly above us. The girl informed me that the whole 3rd floor was being worked on, and that she could move us to a room on the 7th floor, which should be quieter. I didn't ask why, if she knew the work was happening on the 3rd floor, she put us directly below it despite me specifically asking to be as far away as possible from any noise.
So, we relocated to room 712 which was substantially quieter.
Here's why I think the word "design" should be removed from the name...
1. There were 3 doors in the room. One to the hallway, some kind of emergency exit door with an alarm that would call the fire department if you accidentally opened it, and a door through to another hotel room.
2. There was a coaster sized red emergency light/button which lit the room when you switched off the lights.
3. The room was quite spacious, but the bathroom had been squeezed into a tiny space. The sink was the size of a volley ball and the tap handle stuck out over most of it, almost into the flow of water. It wasn't easy to use.
4. The bathroom was separated from the bedroom by a sliding glass door. The toilet was directly behind it. The glass door was frosted, but only partially. There were 3 inch frosted horizontal stripes separated by clear glass. As much as I love my girlfriend, I have no desire to watch her taking a dump. I can't, for the life of me, imagine why somebody thought this was a good idea.
5. There were two sockets by the side of the bed. One had the bedside lamp plugged in, the other was in the perfect spot to plug in my phone charger. However, the second socket didn't work unless a switch by the door was turned on. A switch that also turned on the main light.
6. The hotel provided an option for breakfast in the room. We filled this in at 1am and hung it in the door requesting a 9:30am breakfast. At 9:30 I got dressed in preparation, then realised the card hadn't even been collected.
7. The internet required the room number and full name. No combination of names and rooms we'd stayed in allowed us to log on.
I realise that some of these are unlucky circumstances due to the day we checked in. We'd probably have got breakfast if we hadn't had to move rooms.
I notice that the hotel has responded to many reviews on here, so my only question to you is "why did you choose to install a bathroom door that you can see through?"
