I have been going to Das Rad since the past 3 years and always found the father-son friendly and offering good service. Of late (this year) I haven't been seeing the father much but have mostly met the son -- and something has changed in both his attitude and in the service provided.
Attitude: Almost a month back when my husband went to him, he was rude and spoke in a very deprecating manner. We didn't reciprocate his manner because we thought he may be having a bad day.
Service: I handed over my cycle to him on May 26 for a check and at 1st look I was told everything looks fine, but that it would be a week before I got it back. I left my cycle and didn't hear back. I called after about 9 days on May 4 to ask about my bike and I was told it would be ready for pick up the next day or the following Monday and he would call me when it was ready for pick up. On Monday I get a call from the son saying I can't get my bike back because the gear shifter needs to be changed and it needs to be ordered (which means that when I called on Thursday, May 4 the bike still wasn't checked but I was told it would be ready for pick up the next day or Monday). I said ok and asked him to call me when the bike is ready. He finally calls me this Monday (June 15) and says my bike is ready for pick up. When I go to receive my bike, my bill is over EUR 80 when I was originally told it will be maximum EUR 60. When I ask why, I'm told it's because he also had to replace my rear light. This was the 1st time I was even hearing of the problem -- and he had without informing or asking me gone ahead and changed it! (which means he hadn't done a thorough check up of my bike even though he charged me for a check up -- if he had done, he would have known and should have informed me about both the gear shifter AND the rear light together). While I was unhappy about this unprofessionalism and last minute information about a new repair every week, I didn't want to ruin my day by getting mad at him. So I paid and left. But, my troubles did not end there. Halfway back home, my left pedal fell off! When I took the cycle back the next day, instead of being regretful that he gave me my cycle back in such shoddy condition, he told me that my pedal was faulty! (I mean what kind of a check up did you do over 3 weeks, if you didn't notice this). The fault apparently was that the inside of the pedal was hexagon in shape and not square!
I was done with him by this point -- asked him to put on my pedal and just screw it up.
While I had a good first two years of servicing with Das Rad, I am not going back after this terrible experience. After keeping my cycle for almost 3 weeks and charging me a bomb (in addition to charging me for the check up and accessories he fixed, I was additionally charged labour for each extra accessory fixed), my cycle was still not delivered to me in serviced condition.
If I was to base this rating on this experience, I would give Das Rad no stars. The 2 stars are for old time's sake.
Expensive. Poor service. Indifferent attitude.
