The bar encapsulated all that was glorious about the 1970s show Fawlty Towers. Where to begin? The manager had all the charm of Basil Fawlty, including pretty much shouting at customers to sit down and he'd come when ready, ridiculously long waiting times for drinks, pictures falling off the walls. A delivery of more bottles of drinks arrived (at 5pm on a Saturday) on a little supermarket trolley with the guy bringing them shouting from the door to the bar man, multiple times. The trolley was then left there once he'd gone... There was even a German Manuel hovering about taking drinks to the wrong table and not trusted to take drinks orders, or bills which took nearly as long to arrive as the drinks. This was much more Royle Family than Royal Lounge!
However, drinks were good (we would have ordered more but felt a bit stressed by seeing it all), and the entertainment means it deserves 2/5 stars! Due to the location I'm sure it'll continue to do well, but I really hope they can sort out the staffing issues.
