Drinks aside, this place is at least unpleasant to visit if not totally distressing, if you are not a German speaker and if you appear Asian:
When my friend and I visited, we saw the notice at the door that asks the patrons to wait to be seated, so we waited. The bartender said “komm rein” to us, but we didn’t immediately get it, and he said it again and later shouted “get in!” to us.
After scanning my QR code, the bartender asked me if I had 3G. I told him I was already 2G+, implying that I had received a booster, and then he replied saying I had to show the proof of a third shot. I replied saying 2G+ means I had received a third shot (really, that IS one of the criteria of 2G+ in Berlin), but he insisted to see the 3G proof and claimed he’s a Profi and knew the best. I strongly suggest the owner to check out what 3G means.
My friend had a beer with her when coming in; it’s fine to tell her off, but there is no need to add that “it’s rude to do that in Germany or anywhere in the world”; what‘s her being in Germany (as a foreigner) to do with anything? Do foreigners just need to be educated and reminded of their foreignness everywhere?
We sat down at a couch and then ordered our drinks at the bar, as no ordering service was provided. But this was different with a couple of white men who visited the establishment soon afterwards. They had ordering service at their table, and the bartender was very catering with his English service toward them. I really don’t know what else to think except racial and cultural preferences being at play here.
