I don't understand where the hate is coming from for this place. Of course it looks kinda old, there's people who look like they're living there and a little more could be done about the cleanliness (though it's fine), but what else could you want for such a low price?
It has a great location. Like 200 m from the subway and within walking distance to the opposite side there's a laundromat.
The staff was super friendly. Alex, a Russian bloke, let me check in about 45 minutes earlier, at about 12:15! I somehow missed the moment they charged my card and I was handing out the bill to pay for my stay and Alex told me it was already paid for. Good man.
The bathroom facilities are o.k. There's toilets and showers in each of them. To whoever said there was no doors in the toilets: of course there aren't any, you have the bathroom all for yourself, just lock the door!
The number of bunks v. room space ratio is just fine, and they give you a coat hanger for each bed. No lamps, but an electrical outlet for each bunk.
I never had a problem with the internet. There were 3 different Wi-Fi networks to choose from and I didn't need to change to any one from my first choice.
There are safes in the common area for you to put your stuff in if you have a lock. Also there's a computer, a fridge, a microwave oven and a soda dispenser all in the —yes— small common area.
Complimentary breakfast consists of bread, butter, jam, coffee, milk, tea, cereal, cheese, salami and ham. It's all you want for that price. It's all I needed anyway.
The only thing that was kind of annoying was the lack of a front desk person for an early check out. Breakfast is served at 8:30 (so Alex would arrive by then) and I had to leave at 8:00. I left my key to one of the Russian guys that seemed to know their way around there and that looked like they ran the place. Come to think of it, I didn't get my 5 € deposit back for the key! Aw, well...
I'm sorry I didn't take any pictures. This place was great. If I'm ever traveling solo in Berlin, I'll sure consider paying them another visit.
