They have nice dessert plates u0026 they're located in a gorgeous location. The service was attentive u0026 polite. That's where the positives end, unfortunately. This place will always be the in high demand, so me being brutally honest won't hurt their business.

We had the rabbit leg and the boiled beef and it was 'bland city' (my mother agreed) - in German: "fade". Doing that to dishes that come with a mustard and a horseradish sauce is quite an achievement.
The cherry cake was 90% dough u0026 the coffee was awful.
The final kick - or bump rather - was a visit to the male toilet for the average sized (1,80 m) dude. As you leave, you look down to navigate the quite steep steps leading down, missing that your head has insufficient clearance for the (thankfully padded) stone ceiling u0026 you make startling contact. I never had that experience. A little warning, perhaps?

Recommendation: Go for the Flammkuchen.

I went with my brother and we had a very nice time in the pub garden. We tried the LaabSaal-Bräu, a beer called like the hall the pub is connected to. I don't know where it's actually brewed, but it was light and good in taste. Outside smoking is allowed. Staff was very friendly and the place is not so expansive, neither cheap.

They are doing food for takeaway on nice days — and no one forces you to take it not very far away so a nice stop on a bike ride.

I am giving this place five stars because
a) you just have to support local traditional Beer gardens because Germany has killed all that good stuff that Britain has with Pubs and Spain has with bars and
b) this place is as original as it gets. Seriously, just go there (especially if you are not local to Berlin), maybe by bike, have a beer and a piece of cake and imagine that this scene might have happened 200 years ago. If you are going on a weekend there may be a wedding taking place in their "Tanzsaal" but don't despair - your beer will arrive on time because they have a bit of experience running that thing.
