I cannot recommend the HNO notfall doctor by any means. I went with a sudden acute hearing loss, after visiting 2 other equally clueless HNO doctors before, the doctor at the emergency department as well refused to do any kind of diagnostics besides a simple hearing test (even the machine for that was broken). She offered an intratypanic injection with steroids "in blind", but no blood diluting or blood vessel widening medicine which would be a correct treatment if I had a sensineuronal hearing loss, and no diagnostics for what could be a serious underlying health issue. Desperately, I went home to Poland, where I got immediately admitted to a hospital with a full course of preemptive treatment for sudden hearing loss and after 2 days received a diagnosis - brain tumor. I knew something was wrong but the HNO doctor at Charite wouldn't listen to my begging for further diagnostics and wouldn't listen when I begged her for blood medicine. If I had not taken action to seek doctors outside Germany, I would run with undiagnosed tumor for who knows how many months, posing a life threat. Not everything is due to stress ms. Doctor. All in all, bad medical practice, uncareful doctor without intuition and willingness to listen. I hope Ms. Doctor you may read my review and learn some lesson on proper medicine practice here.

I am unable to comprehend the reason why every announcement, every rule, guideline on the poster, why everything is in german and there is not even a single english translation. And when a patient and their family unknowingly break some "rule", then they are subjected to sarcastic rude comments by nurses staff in the emergency department. I guess these educated nurses also dont understand the meaning of "Emergency" or they are rude to people who don't know their language. How can hospital staff be rude to patients and their families and friends. Already the patients are distressed and on top of that the rudeness of nurses for unable to understand the language, how mean insensitive that is. The doctors are ok, but the other people in the staff, especially the receptionist in the emergency ward are the most uncool people.

Non doctor employees always are angry. Two stars just for two doctors who listened to me carefully and helped me. I go here for yearly checkup and still did not change. POOR MANAGEMENT!

The Charité [ ʃaʀiˈteː ] ( French for " charity , mercy , charity ") is the most traditional hospital in Berlin and, with almost 3,100 beds, one of the largest university hospitals in Europe .  The Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin has united the medical faculties of Humboldt and Freie Universität since 2003 . It is spread over four locations.

The network of university clinics with 301 professors and around 9000 students in 2021.

In 1727, Friedrich Wilhelm I converted the facility into a public hospital called the Charité . When Berlin University began teaching in 1810, it became an important teaching and research facility, from which more than half of the German Nobel Prize winners for medicine or physiology come from.

According to the results of the Excellence Strategy 2019, the Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin, as part of the Berlin University Alliance , is one of the German Universities of Excellence . The clinic enjoys high recognition worldwide.

"The house should be called the Charité." - Friedrich Wilhelm I. , 1727.

The customer service is the worst I've experienced so far. It took me over 2 weeks to make an appointment because the phone was always busy and when I finally got through the said I just go back to my eye doctor, even though i got a referral to the eye clinic. I am nearly blind and have an eye condition that requires a specialist, because a regular doctor isn't experienced to treat me. The receptionists are very rude and impatient. Really disappointed and would never recommend this place to anyone!

I visited with my wife for her to undergo a procedure which was virtually impossible to receive in the US with our US insurance. Our US insurance would rather leave subscribers on pain medications rather than treating the cause of pain which is completely different from German health care standards.

Most all of the Doctors spoke English, Charité has very professional and skilled surgeons. Charité's nuerology surgeons are global leaders in innovative nuerological surgical procedures we were very fortunate to have received care from the Charité nuerology surgical team. The hospital is somewhat spartan compared with US standards but in what mattered, the skill level of the surgical team, they are second to none. My wife is able to lay flat and sleep on her back for the first time in 1.5 years without pain. Everyone, we had contact with at Charité, was pleasant and worked diligently to treat us with exceptional service. The campus was initially built with assistance from the US hence the Duetches people honored the campus name after an historic American icon in science and free thinking, Benjamin Franklin. The irony of an American couple receiving treatment at this campus is not lost on us.

Parking is ample but costs 2€ a visit (what I paid). There is a small cafeteria, shop, Chapel, and florist on the E floor. The NY times is sold for under 4€ daily. WIFI wasn't available to patients. Most areas of the hospital did receive at least some cellular radio reception. There were no water fountains but bottles of mineral water or "quell" (still) water with cups were abundant throughout waiting areas or patient rooms. 5 liter Puriana brand water (US style low mineral content water) was available at the Hoffman's about a mile south of the campus off Hindenburgdamm.

We don't speak German, Google Translate (camera instant translate function) was an invaluable tool we used often to help navigate signs throughout the campus. Many folks speak English to varying degrees, the higher level of education the more advanced their English.

Took my parents here (77 y.o.) for a comprehensive checkup on their eyes, and follow-up procedures.

PRO

Nice doctors who care, and who are fantastic professionals. Reasonable advice, flawless operations. Every doctor we've seen has been really warmhearted and helpful.

CON

The administration is a challenge. Forget about customer service. I don't know if this is because this team is overworked, or because they do not see it as an important part of the job description. We felt like intruders who are getting in the way of everyone there. Not an experience I can recommend to anyone visiting a hospital, which is already stressful as it is.

SUMMARY

My German friends tell me that there are similarly good doctors with the same budgets at nicer places. So if you have some time to invest into choosing a clinic that knows what is customer service, empathy and human touch – look elsewhere. As much as I admire the doctors at Charite, the administration side is a sad story
