We decided to do the free tour of Berlin on our first day. It was the best decision we could have made. At the beginning I was afraid they would start the tour with all participants who were waiting at the meeting point (Starbucks at Brandenburg Gate) but they split up the group in 3. Franziska, a young German with a British accent, was our tour guide and she was amazing. Super friendly and accommodating. Her knowledge of Berlin's history is impressive. She had an answer to every question. Since it was raining like crazy, she found spots along the way for us to have a roof over our heads and amazed us with interesting facts. The 3 hours went by quickly despite the bad weather. All in all a great tour, well worth your time and if you get Franziska as a guide you are in luck :)

Orange color free tours are amazing. They are just under the gate. Outside the tourist info center. Everyday, 11:00 and 12:00
Highly recommended.

If you want to discover Berlin in few hours you must have a walk with these guys!, they are nice and friendly and have a strong knowledge of the story of Berlin. It's not free but you can choose what to give them!, it worth it!

I did this tour on my third or fourth day on Berlin. I wish i did at the very first one.
The guide provides very useful information and interesting facts about the city main attractions, and it provides the opportunity to walk around the main area as well.
I recommend doing the ones in the morning, and using the afternoon to do a paid tour of your interest, or even follow up by your on the things that interested you the most.

Really lucky to get three different guides on our three tours. Third Reich tour with Chris (the canadian one) was great, did a wonderful job of framing things in relation to current life. Sachsenhausen Concentration camp was a long day but we had a lovely energetic Australian named Mike who did a great job of explaining things without making the subject matter crushing and grim but still presenting it with sensitivity and mindfulness, no easy task. We had Franziska for our soviet Berlin tour which was great as she had a lot of personal stories to share from her family about the period. Always go with these tours when Im on holiday and they never disappoint.
