Given prior experiences with some other establishments being cash-only I checked they took card (they did) and reviewed the menu - although it was all in German I managed with a translation app.
I went for a "steak Madagascar" which was a 200g steak with pepper sauce, accompanied by sautéed potatoes and a bowl of salad (swimming in mayonnaise - I should have asked for it without, but didn't know it'd come that way). I found the steak slightly on the rare side but also hadn't rested long enough so found juices running out when I cut into it, but the pepper sauce was great - creamy mushroom flavour with peppercorns.
They served altbier - I had one of those with the meal then finished off with a standard pilsner.
The decor is quite traditional and old, feeling like you're in someone's front room. There's no music playing, all quite tranquil. The appeared to be only one waiter but he did a good job of getting around everyone - I didn't feel I was sitting waiting long for service.
I'll certainly contemplate returning again in future. Bigger parties be warned: the place filled up quite quickly so reservations may be prudent.
