But if you look at the photos after the bombardment, you will never understand how such a city can look so great again… The choir of the church has been restored to its former glory, and even has its ribbed vault back, as well as the beautiful choir stalls from 1490, consisting of six rows of oak seats with 57 of the original 87 seats, which survived the war because they had been placed elsewhere in a hospital church….. As you enter the church you will notice the spacious, light and modern interior, with a large gallery on the left. Underneath is even a piece of museum furnishings with display cases. Much attention is paid here to the humanist Johannes Reuchlin, who was buried here in 1522, 500 years after our visit in June of this year 2022. A bronze statue of Reuchlin can also be found in the church. All valuables, such as the baroque crucifix from 1501, the wrought iron altar grid, the choir altar, etc., came here, as well as the furniture, through donations from other churches. The pulpit shell has 6 colored panel paintings with 5 parables of Jesus, made in 1956 by Rudolf Yelin de Jonge. It's the parable of the prodigal son, miraculous catch, Good Shepherd. Sower, foolish and wise virgins. The sleek octagonal baptismal font, with bronze lid, also dates from this time. The church has four modern windows, including a rose window by Adolf Saile from 1983, which, due to the strong backlight, does not want to be photographed by me! The three other high windows were made in 1957 by Wolf-Dieter Kohler, and tell the stories from the Bible in beautiful, colorful and modern glass paintings. The other windows are filled in with clear glass. Even though the church can't be called very special, it is definitely worth taking a look inside!
