Have visited several times: one of the great little museums of the world, especially as it brings lacquer and japanned items together from across the globe. Superb craftsmanship and lessons in cultural history at the same time. Looking forward to visiting again - when I can.

This is a great Museum, they show a Japanese art style which was mostly in the 1800s. It is still done today but the quantity is less. For 3 euros this is a good see. Plan 45 Minutes to an hour.

Great museum! Beautiful collection of art work and a wonderful activity for a rainy day. The audio guided tour (using headphones) in english was excellent!

The permanent exhibition shows lacquer art from different regions, such as Korean, China and Russia, on two floors. The objects on display are of different nature, from cans for incense to cupboards and chests.

We visited the lacquer museum as part of the special exhibition "Breaking out of Tradition. Japanese Lacquer 1890-1950" in cooperation with the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam. The special exhibition showed really beautiful objects of Japanese lacquer art. However, the special exhibition was located in the basement and therefore had to struggle with the lighting. The lighting with spots was sometimes not good for the objects. The exhibition was quite dark, which made it difficult to find the exhibit numbers, for example. Furthermore, the spots on some objects were set in such a way that when you stood in front of the plant you took away the light. This lighting was explained with the preservation of the paintwork and the damaging effect of glaring lighting. Overall, we are satisfied with the special exhibition, but we would have liked a little more light.

Das Museum befindet sich in einer alten Villa unweit des Bahnhofes. Die Erreichbarkeit ist somit sehr gut.

Die Dauerausstellung zeigt auf zwei Geschossen Lackkunst unterschiedlicher Regionen, wie z.B. Korean, China und Russland. Die ausgestellten Objekte sind dabei unterschiedlicher Natur, von Dosen für Räucherwerk bis hin zu Schränken und Truhen.

Wir besuchten das Lackmuseum im Zuge der Sonderausstellung "Breaking out of Tradition. Japanese Lacquer 1890-1950" in Kooperation mit dem Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam. Die Sonderausstellung zeigte wirklich schöne Objekte japanischer Lackkunst. Jedoch befand sich die Sonderausstellung im Untergeschoss und hatte somit mit der Beleuchtung zu kämpfen. Die Beleuchtung mit Spots tat manchmal den Objekten nicht gut. Die Ausstellung war recht dunkel, was z.B. das Auffinden der Exponatsnummern erschwerte. Weiterhin waren bei manchen Objekten die Spots so eingestellt, dass wenn man vor dem Werk stand man diesem das Licht nahm. Erklärt wurde diese Beleuchtung mit dem Erhalt der Lacke und der schädigenden Wirkung greller Beleuchtung. Wir sind im Ganzen mit der Sonderausstellung zufrieden, hätten uns jedoch doch etwas mehr Licht gewünscht.
