Amazing view and great place to walk. I saw people having picnic, enjoying the sun. Make sure you have water with you especially if you go with kids. There are 2 restaurants so you can charge your batteries before you start climbing. Enjoy!

A good experience.

Specially the view of the Kassel from top of the monument is breathtaking..

The path is a long one and includes a lot of stairs so you will have to put some effort into climbing. My 5 stars is because I really enjoyed the climb.

It was really crowded on Sunday. The water show happens late, but luckily it happened on the day I visited i.e Sunday.

The place is amazing. Really fascinating. Starting from going up stairs in the castle to see the while city from above. The stairs go narrow under the base of the statue. After that, you could go out downstairs all the ways to the fountains and the brick stairs with many landscape to take amazing photos. The fountain has a musiscal show on Sundays. You could set in the landscape all the way down.

Great view and interesting site. Unfriendly reception though.
Entry to Herkules site is 6€ for adults. Free for under 18, students etc (see photo)
No water fountains active except Wednesdays, Sundays and bank holidays at 14:30.
Entry ticket also covers castle Löwenburg

Beautifull.

We went to see the free to enter Monument outside, parking was next to it.
You can make some water dance for a slight € wich was a fun little activity to watch.

Everything looks beautifull and i can't wait to see it once the waterfountains are put back on and are in season again.

Really recommend going here, but please watch out with fear of hights and its not save when you are not a stable walker!

The dominant of the Bergpark. Not exactly! The dominant of the whole Kassel area!

Visible from almost everywhere, this huge, green and Greek
''dude'' named Hercules is overlooking the marvelous Bergpark. It's impressive indeed, but let me be honest, it's quite a hike to reach the peak (unless you take a car and park it right behind Octagon) but it is very rewarding and totally worth it! After all, at least 230 vertical meters need to be vanquished before reaching the Octagon.

Tickets to enter the Octagon can be purchased in the vending machine next to the entry gate, however it was out of order during my visit. Instead I had to buy a ticket in the visitors center approx. 100 meters away. I bought a combined ticket for 6 EUR (it covers the Löwenburg and Wilhelmshöhe castles) and grabbed some English informative brochures.

The whole place is actually under construction so it takes a lot of magic away. Regardless of that, you can enter the rooftop of Octagon and enjoy the views from there. More inquisitive visitors can climb the pyramid - the pedestal of the Hercules statues - through a very very narrow staircase to its platforms. I didn't even know about that! The platforms are very small, located right under the statue (you won't see it though) and get packed easily. There is a nice view from there, and also from the roof of Octagon, of the whole park including the Grand Cascade and city of Kassel. The Octagon itself is empty, there is nothing to see.

As other parts of the park, neither Octagon is well maintained. Some rubbish laying around and mainly a lot of weed and grass growing from the clefts in between the bricks puts this place in a bit of a shame.

Definitely a great place to watch the water show, but be mindful that the water fountain works only on Wednesday, Sundays and some public holidays and starts at 14:30. (It is written and mentioned almost everywhere - from the park informative brochure, through the website to the local information boards).

I visited on Sunday at 11 AM and the amount of visitors was manageable, however in the early afternoons hundreds and hundreds of people came to watch the water show, therefore expect CROWDS on these particular days!

The closest toilets were available at the information center or in the nearby restaurant, where visitors can refresh and have something to bite. Visited in August 2022.

Just like the previous reviews I’m also recommending this place to everyone who is interest in nature and architecture. It isn’t that easy to go down all the stairs and afterwards all the way down to the castle BUT I‘M TELLING YOU IT‘S WORTH EVERY STEP. Going up you can take a Bus and then start from the top and walk down until you reach the beautiful castle. If you want you can even walk through a foresty park and see a tiny waterfall as well. As a bonus there is one of the cutest tram stations I have seen in Germany so far.
