When we lived in Durlach in winter (2019/2020) we loved walking to Kranz to have dinner and a few beers. It felt very traditional yet also alternative and quirky. It had a very local atmosphere and yet they were so friendly to us. We always had a really fun time there. The food is simple but really delicious - one of the saddest things about leaving Karlsruhe was not being able to go to Kranz anymore :(

We have been frequenting this establishment for over 20 years. Ownership changed a few years ago (the menu offering is now a bit smaller) but it continues to be a fine place for tasty fare, good service and a very nice atmosphere. The possibility to enjoy a cold Jever (on tap) on the small, outdoor patio during the summer months only adds to the charm.

The drinks and the food are a bit expensive but it is a comfortable place to spend some time with friends. The atmosphere gives really the filling of "German Kneipe", but with plenty of space for everyone.

Even the non-smoking area smells very strongly of tobacco. If you're a smoker it might be fine, but non-smokers are probably not going to enjoy being here.
