The room was very clean and I was surprised that our beds were remade every morning by staff, not your average shared dorm!
The location isn't great but it's only a 5min walk to the train station.
The staff were extremely helpful when I asked for recommendations and directions.
The kitchen is great and there was lots of room in the fridge to store food which is also uncommon!

I stayed 3 nights in a female-only dorm, this was a super clean hostel and the staff were friendly enough. It doesn’t have the “party hostel” vibe so maybe not the best if that’s what you’re looking for, but in terms of somewhere to stay just for a rest it’s perfect. A 5 minute walk to the U Bahn station so it’s easy to get around too, would definitely stay here again.

Deducting one point for the layout of the dorms - bed setup and lighting is such that every time someone comes in during the night, everyone gets to notice. But otherwise it's a great place: very clean, very well maintained, quiet location, great staff, guest kitchen and very close to public transport as well as dining and shopping options.

I stayed for a week in a large shared dorm. The room itself was well-appointed, large enough for everyone and their luggage, with an en suite toilet and shower room, and lockers (bring your own padlock) to store valuables.
However, the way things were set up, every dorm mate who came home from a night of partying woke up the whole dorm - with noise and lights. While this isn't fully Meininger's fault, a ceiling light that doesn't shine into every bed might ease the issue with disrespectful dorm mates.
There's a fully equipped guest kitchen with a dining area. Breakfast spread - as usual at Meininger's - is extensive.
Nearby, there's an ample selection of restaurants and supermarkets.
The train station (with long-distance trains, regional trains, city trains, busses) is in easy walking distance.

We had an amazing experience with Meininger in Hamburg. We stayed in 6 bed female dorm, it was clean, girls were quiet and the stuff was friendly. It is a bit far from the city centre, but it wasn't a problem for us, because at least we felt much safer than living near Hauptbahnhof. The Altona station is ok and the surroundings, especially the Ottensen area, is breathtaking. We would absolutely recommend this hostel!

I booked today a room for end of Oct (in 2.5 month). Unfortunately I did an error with the booking date which I recognized directly after booking confirmation. I tried to cancel the booking immediately, which was rejected by the Meininger Hotel. I have to pay the full price... Not my understanding of service...
