A really old-fashioned, authentic and excellent restaurant. I wouldn't have known about it were it not for my sister-in-law, who lived nearby when she went to Freiburg University more than 40 years ago. First off, there are no menus. Each day's "specials" are on a chalkboard, and they always have there go-to fare (schnitzel being their signature dish). The decor is notably early 20th century - dark, worn and cozy. A nod to the present day is the small outdoor seating area in the alleyway beside. The servings are huge but not expensive and service is very good. But the food1 Here's the true test. I'll go out on a limb and say the schnitzel is the best in Baden. Try to take the streetcar or bus or even walk if you can - parking a car anywhere nearby is nigh impossible.
