We spent three nights at the Gasthaus Schutzen while visiting our daughter who is studying in Freiburg. The property is conveniently situated on a tram line that quickly takes you into the Altstadt. Our room was spartan but comfortable and clean. Breakfast was included with the room and there were plenty of tasty options to start your day. Staff were somewhat aloof, but not unfriendly. The ground floor restaurant was very busy each night (we were told that reservations are highly recommended), but we never had a chance to have dinner there.

This resteraunt has charm!
They offer a wide range of food, including vegan. I have been a few times and the food was always delicious!!!
The staff have always been very friendly!
Worth a visit!!!

Gasthaus Schützen is a nice restaurant. It is not a fancy one, more rustic. I had a Rumpsteak which was fine. Nothing special, but for the price ok. The waitress was also nice. So no worries going there again.

Booked us in for 2 nights (Saturday and Sunday) - we arrived at 6pm after an exhausting day of travel to find the place closed (for "rest day") - with no arrangements made to check us in. We were forced to wander the town in desperate search of accommodation. Never even received an apology.

The restaurant is not directly at the city center, but is very close to a tram stop and easy to find and to get there. The atmosphere was really nice and the food was very tasty! Nice experience!
