The location is a bit away from the city, but this is totaly fine, because with the bike you can easily arrive it from Erfurt. Tasty ice cream and a good hot spot for taking a break after cycling.

Without reservation,can't get in. Why is this a good concept for a resteraunt? I was told in the DDR time, this place was a local favorite. Locals enjoy dropping by after a walk along the Gera river on sunday, drink a coffee eat a cake....Today there were an old couple before us, confused about the fancy writing at the door ( Italian opening time or some kind of BS really) and sadly walked away....Time had changed apparently, now the sunday is open to a special klub.....A restaurant who opens not for walk in is like a movie star so afraid to show in public without make up....This place is no longer the local icon when they no longer serve the common crowd. I suggest them change their name to a more exotic bird like dodo, because bachstelze is only a country side bird at the side of the Creek. And maybe they should consider giving this lovely place back to the local people, they for sure can open a klub only seclusive place for those reservation only fancy people ( there are also lots of those in Germany so no worries) ....somewhere else.

This was an amazing cafe where families could go at their weekend. But nowadays it became a fancy restaurant, which is pretty good for companies to have their business evening meetings.

A unique dining experience and a photo op with Maria Gross or should that be Maria Ostzone. A very different approach to a fine dining experience minus the stuffy fuss and bother. Not for fussy inflexible types . Take an open mind and enjoy.
