Nice lobby with chandeliers and decent rooms for a night only. The Thai lady that checked us in was extremely friendly and approachable. She said we could have later check out today. However checking out was not so pleasant with another front desk guy who insisted that we pay extra if we need to extend checkout time by even 1hr. To add, there was a wedding photo shoot at the lobby and instead of wishing the couple, this guy was stern and told them they were too noisy and they have to pay to take photos. ????u200d♀️ What with this front desk guy?!

Found this gem on a stopover heading towards Belgium. It's old and classic and has a great character. Rooms were big and had all the amenities you need. Walking distance to city center. Strong wifi throughout the building. It's better than the ratings suggest for the price.

Amazing unfriendly stuff. They are more like gangsters than receptionist. They are ready for fight. I never seen so aggressive personal in one hotel.

The room is nice looking but did not have air con, did not have a fridge and right outside the window was the air con unit for another building that was on 100% of the time. The bed was alright but the pillows were like pancakes. For the price you get what you get but would of liked some better pillows.

This is an unusual hotel. The lobby area has a classical feel, but it's just down to fancy tiling and a big chandelier. The hotel is in fact two hotels in one - the Excelsior and the Unique. I stayed in the Excelsior which had ground floor rooms. The rooms were modern and clean but they were very hot and there was no A/C in them. It meant the windows had to be opened but you then had the street noise to contend with.
The hotel has no restaurant on site, it uses a steak-house next door. Unfortunatley this closes at 10pm and I arrived at this time so could not get any food - there was not even room service available. There was tea and coffee in the room, but no milk, only the powdered coffee whitener. Breakfast was poor to be honest, the coffee was awful and I had to request the waiters to come and give me some rather than offering to assist you.
The hotel is within walking distance of the main station and very close to the shops, but I don't think I would want to stay here again.

A really reasonably priced hotel that's 9 minutes walk from the main train station and about 2 minutes walk from the city centre.
Clean and tidy with helpful staff it's certainly not high-end but it's comfortable and to my mind a steal at the price which you're able to get a room for if you book in advance.
Whilst you're here, make sure you pop next door to the Dortmund U gallery - it's well worth a visit and most exhibitions are free.
