Great place to eat! I am not a pro in the indian cuisines, but it seems authentic and is doubtlessly very tasty, yet inexpensive.

The starters (garlic naan and raita) were ok, but unfortunately the main courses weren't that convincing for the price. My tarka dal (9.50€) was no bigger than a lentil soup and unfortunately not a taste explosion. The other dishes: vegetarian korma (€9.50), chicken tikka malai (€14) and sabzi prawns (€11.90) were not entirely convincing in terms of quality. It lacked some finesse, instead the curries were more like a mush, which didn't make us particularly happy. The mango lassi was delicious though. Would probably not come back here again. The total bill was €91.40 and we still left a generous tip.
Too bad. Needs improvement!

Wir waren hier gestern zu 4 Personen essen nach einer Empfehlung eines Freundes. Leider hatte uns das Ambiente nicht so sehr gefallen, der Service war sehr freundlich aber etwas träge. Die Vorspeisen (garlic naan und raita) waren ok, die Hauptspeisen konnten leider nicht so sehr für den Preis überzeugen. Mein Tarka Dal (9,50€) war nicht größer als eine Linsensuppe und leider keine Geschmacksexplosion. Die anderen Gerichte: vegetarisches Korma (9,50€), Chicken Tikka Malai (14€) und Sabzi Prawns (11,90€) konnten qualitativ nicht ganz überzeugen. Es fehlte etwas an Finesse, stattdessen glichen die Currys eher einer Pampe, die uns nicht besonders glücklich machte. Das Mango Lassi war aber lecker. Würden hier vermutlich nicht wieder einkehren. Die Gesamtrechnung betrug 91,40€ und wir ließen trotzdem ein üppiges Trinkgeld da.
Schade. Verbesserungsbedürftig!

As a main course I ordered a Chicken Madras Curry. This dish I have already eaten in many Indian restaurants in Germany and England and in the optimal case, the dish has a good sharpness and a very complex taste of tomato, spices and herbs.
The curry served at Raja Hindustani was very far from this best form. In fact, although I was quite hungry, I did not eat more than half.
The food had zero spiciness (although in the menu it was spicy), the chicken was very tough and the curry tasted more like stewed onions than an Indian curry.
The service seemed to be anything but hard (there was no cutlery to eat) and it was not asked if the food was OK, although most of it was left on the plate. I suspect that armed with a cookbook I would probably achieve a much better food result in a first attempt.
Fortunately there are still some good Indian restaurants in Ehrenfeld (unfortunately not in Neu Ehrenfeld), so there is not a single reason for me to eat here again.

Ich war letzte Woche ziemlich begeistert ein neues indisches Restaurant in Neu Ehrenfeld zu entdecken, da es hier in der Ecke nichts entsprechendes gibt.
Ich war dann heute an einem Samstag mittag kurzentschlossen dort was Essen.
Leider war die Erfahrung so schlecht, dass ich dort sehr sicher nie wieder einkehren werde. Das Restaurant war gegen 14:00 völlig leer.
Als Vorspeise bestellte ich Papadams, welche aus irgendeinem Grund nur mit maximal einem Chutney bestellt werden konnten. Die Papadams waren kalt, weich und sehr laff, als ob Sie entweder vom Vortag oder aus der Packung serviert wurden. Das Chutney war ein Mixed Pickles, welches auch ziemlich abgestanden schmeckte. Als Hauptgericht bestellte ich ein Chicken Madras Curry. Dieses Gericht habe ich schon in vielen indischen Restaurants in Deutschland und England gegessen und im optimalen Fall hat das Gericht eine gute Schärfe und einen sehr vielschichtigen Geschmack von Tomate, Gewürzen und Kräutern.
Das im Raja Hindustani servierte Curry war sehr weit von dieser Bestform weg. Ich habe tatsächlich obwohl ich recht hungrig war nicht mehr als die Hälfte gegessen.
Das Essen hatte Null Schärfe (obwohl in der Karte als scharf bezeichnet), das Hühnerfleisch war sehr zäh und das Curry schmeckte mehr nach geschmorten Zwiebeln als einem indischen Curry.
Der Service schien auch alles andere als bemüht (Es gab erstmal kein Besteck zum Essen) und es wurde auch nicht gefragt, ob das Essen OK war, obwohl der größte Teil noch auf dem Teller verblieben war. Ich vermute, dass ich bei einem Erstversuch mit einem Kochbuch bewaffnet vermutlich ein wesentlich besseres Essensergebnis erzielen würde.
Zum Glück gibt es in Ehrenfeld (nur leider nicht in Neu Ehrenfeld) noch einige gute indische Restaurants, sodass es für mich keinen einzigen Grunde gibt hier nochmal essen zu gehen.

Mein neuer Lieblingsinder in Köln! Wir hatten uns in der Lockdown Corona Zeit Essen für zu Hause zum abholen bestellt! Die Bestellung war wie am Vortag vereinbart, zur abgemachten Zeit bereit und es konnte direkt mitgenommen werden. Portionen sind mehr als gut, Geschmack ebenfalls.
