It was closed when I visited it, with video surveillance and dog alert signs. It may be interesting from a historical point of view, but I'm not impressed by the appearance of the facade. There is no working schedule on the front door, so I'm not sure if it can ever be seen.

Das Fort XI in Köln-Buchheim gehört zu den wenigen großen Forts in Köln, deren Kehlkaserne nach den Entfestigungsarbeiten der 1920er Jahre einigermaßen gut erhalten ist und vor allem noch überirdisch zweigeschossig da steht. Erbaut wurde es im Zuge des Baus des äußeren Festungsgürtels ab 1877, es wurde ab 1891 umgebaut und verstärkt. Heute sind alle wehrhaften Bauteile entfernt und das Fort, also im wesentlichen die Kehlkaserne, liegt abgesperrt im "Dornröschenschlaf". Regulär ist leider keine Besichtigung möglich, außer am "Tag der Forts", der immer am ersten Sonntag im Juni vom Kölner Festungsmuseum veranstaltet wird. Empfehlenswert!
