I am a visitor to Berlin, staying here for one week. I thought the order was going perfectly until way too much time had passed without my food arriving. At this point, I called the number - that was given to me in the order confirmation email from Lieferando.de - to ask what the hold up is with my order. I don’t speak German, I only speak English, which I told the person answering the phone. He kept talking to me in German, then hung up the phone. So then I decided to google the restaurant and called the number listed there and the same man answered, so I told him politely again, to please put someone on the phone who speaks English. He did, and this person told me that my order was in fact not processed because the phone number I gave in the order is not a German number. I obviously don’t have a German phone number because I’m only visiting Berlin, staying at an Airbnb. I found this reason for my order to not be processed ludicrous as the website through which I ordered my food (Lieferando.de) didn’t tell me that my phone number’s format was incorrect. The person on the phone said, after I confirmed everything in my order, that if I wait 45 more minutes, the food will be here. I told him no, I would like to cancel my order and that they should be ashamed of themselves for the way the restaurant and this whole situation is managed. When I said this, he called me “hangry”, which I find incredibly rude to tell someone who has waited for the food to come for 1.5 hours at this point. After that, I told him I would like to cancel my order, I’m done, thank you and good bye. 1 hour and 20 minutes after the phone call, the delivery guy is at the front door ringing. I told him that I cancelled my order, so I don’t want the food and he kept giving me his phone - presumably to talk to his boss - but the person on the phone, again, was talking in German, so I understood nothing, which I told both of them. Again. They kept trying to make me pay for my order despite me cancelling it 1 hour 20 minutes before.
TLDR - if you are visiting Berlin and don’t speak German and don’t have a German phone number, do not order from them. Their customer service is horrible.
