So... the food was great. We had the fish soup and gazpacho as appetizers, both delicious. As main course, we had the grilled loup de mer and Wiener schnitzel. My partner has had better Wiener schnitzel, but it was still excellent. I haven’t had grilled loup de mer before, but we both agreed, it was delicious.
As desert we had the parfait and creme brûlée... the Creme brûlée was awesome!
From the food alone, this restaurant gets a solid 4.5 from me...... but the service.....
I don’t want to harp on the service too much considering the circumstances; it’s a small-ish town in former east Germany, coming out of the pandemic lockdown... and it was a Tuesday afternoon... obviously short staffed. But when a fine French restaurant serves wine by the bottle, one expects proper wine service, at least. That means, following the steps from opening the bottle until the approval of the ordering guest before the waiter leaves the table. This did not happen.
I appreciate the fact that there were other guests wanting the waiter’s attention, but wine service comes first in fine restaurants. It only takes 2 minutes tops...
I was also disappointed by the lack of knowledge about the menu from the waiter, and found the general attitude was somewhat indifferent........ but I’ve actually had worse service in France, so I try to take it as an element of authenticity.
The food and atmosphere were great.... and the service from the attached cafe was better than brilliant.
