The store is quite new, but whomever designed it missed the concept that signage is meant to inform new customers where to go and what to do. So we trudged down the long façade past a number of doors before finally finding the entrance, which was not marked. Once inside we started shopping but needed a shopping cart – others had them, but we could not find them anywhere. Finally someone told us we had to go back outside to get one. Once again, proper signage would have made things clear instantly.
The presentation inside reminds one of Whole Foods stores in America – heavy on marketing and selling. Personally I’d prefer a more old-fashioned, straightforward-but-good-quality presentation.
The food on offer is very good, with lots of special items I’d never seen before. Prices are high, but to be expected for what you get. There was a good selection of tomatoes, all of which looked great, but not a single one had any scent – a sure sign that they wouldn’t have much flavour. But I have never yet found a truly tasty tomato in Berlin…
We wanted to have lunch at the Bistro. I checked the menu ahead of time – it’s short, but I saw a couple things I was interested in. But once seated we were informed that a number of things on the very brief menu were not available today, so we left.
So overall, only a moderately successful visit.
